The Story
Women Academics in Construction (WAiC) is a capacity-building network for women and post graduate students in the built environment. At WAiC we provide robust horizontal relationships among peers and vertical relationship between mentors and mentees. We believe that women face unique challenges at each stage of their career or academic pursuit. So, every career cadre (Professor, Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor/Junior Lecturer, Post Graduate Student, Under Graduate Student) is covered and very welcome to join us. At WAiC we provide mentoring, networking, collaboration and requisite research and leadership skills for women academics and early career researchers in the built environment. We meet online every month to touch base and also to learn how to improve our research and teaching outcomes.
WAiC is a support group where we help each other as we navigate our career as academics, based on the understanding that success for one is success for all.
We work with the entire academic value including students early, mid-career, and senior level academics. We are also in constant dialogue with construction professionals and policy makers.
We take consistent incremental steps towards our desired outcomes.
We are driven by a mindset of value addition and contribution. Leaving a situation better than we met it is our commitment to societal transformation.
We strive to improve our capabilities to gain mastery of our teaching and research expectations.
