Dr. Ifeyinwa Ijeoma Obianyo is a seasoned Lecturer and Researcher in the Civil Engineering department at Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja. She holds a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2010), an M.Sc., and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (Sustainable Construction Materials specialty), from the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja. Dr. Obianyo's research focus includes Eco-friendly Building and Construction Materials, Low-carbon and Sustainable Concrete, Soil Stabilization, Waste Valorization for Construction Applications, Statistical Modelling of Strength of Materials, Mechanical Behaviour of Building and Construction Materials, Gender Violence, Water Resources and Climate change. Her academic career commenced at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, where she served as a lecturer and researcher, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Engr. Dr. Obianyo also served as the Acting Head of Department (HoD) of the Department of Civil Engineering, African University of Science and Technology, Abuja.
A highly productive scholar, Engr. Dr. Obianyo has authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and serves as a Reviewer of scientific journal papers for more than 10 Scopus-indexed journals. She has a Scopus h-index of 19, a Google Scholar h-index of 21 and an i10-index of 31, with over 1,000 citations, underscoring her strong impact in the global research community. Her research interests span eco-friendly and low-carbon construction materials, sustainable concrete, soil stabilization, waste valorization for construction applications, and environmental sustainability. She has also served as an Expert Evaluator for the European Commission, contributing her expertise to international research and innovation initiatives.
Engr. Dr. Obianyo is the Managing and Publishing Editor of the Nile Journal of Engineering and Applied Science and serves as an Editorial Board Member of the Discover Civil Engineering Journal (Springer Nature). She is also an active reviewer for several Scopus-indexed international journals, contributing to the advancement of high-quality scientific research.
Her academic excellence has been recognized through several prestigious awards and fellowships. She was a recipient of the World Bank–Pan African Materials Institute (PAMI) Academic Centre of Excellence Scholarship (2016–2020) for her Master’s and PhD studies. During her doctoral programme, she won the RILEM PhD Travel Grant to attend the RILEM Conference in the United Kingdom. She also received a PAMI Research Fellowship at The Ohio State University, USA (2020).
Over the years, Engr. Dr Obianyo has been mentoring students toward academic and professional excellence. She has supervised over 15 undergraduate projects and over 20 postgraduate theses. She is currently serving as the M.Eng. thesis Co-ordinator (2023 till date) and a member of the Academic Quality Assurance Committee (AQAC) of Nile University of Nigeria (2024 till date). Dr Obianyo has served as the Academic Level Advisor of 200 and 300 Level students of the Department of Civil Engineering and currently serves as the Academic Level Advisor of 400 Level students. In recognition of her outstanding service and performance, she was awarded the Exceptional Performer Award at Nile University of Nigeria (2025).
Engr. Dr. Obianyo is a COREN-registered Civil Engineer and an active member of professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers (NICE), Organization of Women in Science in Developing World (OWSD) and Nigerian Young Academy (NYA).
Beyond academia, Engr. Dr. is deeply committed to social impact. She is the Founder of the Empowering Women and Children Initiative, through which she advocates for inclusion, capacity building, and access to opportunities for women and young people. As a passionate STEM advocate, she is particularly devoted to inspiring girls and young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
